sex and manners

I read an article yesterday where the writer was making a connection between Singaporean's lack of sex with lack of courtesy. I found that highly amusing and perhaps to some extent true. Personally, I do feel sort of happier if I have a sex life. Well, you could equate sex life to being in a relationship which could potentially make one feel better. Or maybe, having frequent one nite stands will also make you happier - that I am not sure of.

Then I decided to check out on the stats. So hey, guess what? In 2004, the average number of times singaporeans have sex a year is 79. It fell to 73 in 2005. Oh dear...

Moving on to courtesy, New York came out tops in the Reader's digest survey. The national sex average of the americans was 113 -- quite above the average.

The region that most lacked courtesy was Asia, where eight out of nine cities tested finished in the bottom 11, Reader's Digest said....

A cursory glance at durex's data will also tell you that the countries finishing near the bottom for freq of sex is mostly asia too.

We need a "have more sex" campaign. that will contribute to the "make more babies" campaign too. Everything is inter connected. Thats life huh?

perlman

Believe it or not, I like Itzhak Perlman's music. His music simply lulls you into them, leaving you completely helpless.

The first time i cam across his music was from something I downloaded during my undergrad years. After that, was a mad search on the uni's network to look for more of his stuff. And i really anjoy listening to them. Somehow, through the years, after a couple of hardisk problems etc, I lost his music -- cept for 4 of them.

Right now, i really miss some of those pieces. Especially the Schindler's list theme and another called Scent of a woman. I'm trying to listen to the sample through iTunes but the it keeps buffering. Wonder if its my network thats giving problems.

Feel totally desperate now.

Recently Steffen passed me some Swan Lake and Nutcracker. Very nice too. I mean after all, i do like Tchaikovsky. Mendelssohn and Rachmaninov are nice too.

Back to Perlman, especially when its with Yoyo ma, thats like a potent mix. Superb.

I am no expert in music. but when one has such power over you, i'm sure it means something.

world cup

I don't know much about soccer. I know that the World Cup happens every 4 years and when that happens, its a HUGE affair. People come to work or for classes with dark eye rings, screams can be heard on a sporadic basis in the wee hours of the night.

I don't know much about soccer but I do watch soccer. As what most people will say about gals who watch soccer, its for the guys. I won't deny that. My affair with soccer has always been tightly associated with the men in my life. It all started in my early teens, when my brother persuaded me to watch the Malaysian Cup finals with him. I remember it was december, I watched it on tv while sucking one of those christmas cane candies. It got rather exciting because I of course wanted singapore to win. That was the time when Fandi was in. If i remember correctly, it was a match against Pahang? And it was also the last year that the malaysia cup was held. i think we won.

Then I got pulled into EPL by my cousin. I remembered Man Utd was really in then. Liverpool vs Man Utd was the big thing. But i must admit that as these games were always aired rather late, i usually fall asleep after half time.

My first bf was a soccer fanatic. He used to insist that he can multi-task, ie. hold a conversation with me on the phone while his eyes are glued to the tv set. I hated that.

Now its the world cup again. No men in my life, but somehow, I find myself watching the world cup. I stay up late to catch some of the more potentially interesting matches. I was dismayed that Japan lost to Australia. I was disappointed that Sweden could not make their match more spectacular. Though sometimes, I am a bit of a sucker for underdogs so maybe it was great that tobago&trinidad manage to make it a draw. Now I wished that I had gone some place to watch the on-going korea match. seen Ahn Jung Hwan in action. The guy who became such a star after the last world cup, with also the gals going crazy over his looks. I was one of those. (yeah!! Korea vs togo, 2:1)

World cup can be bad for the health. Staying up late, snacking through the matches are just some of the few vices. Of course with the beer as well, drunkeness and rowdy banter follows. Lots of chips and other junk food. I had this huge craving for chicken wings during the sweden match. Macs delivery apparently takes an hour -- by which the match would be almost over, and as for KFC, you can only place your order before 9pm though they can deliver your food till 5am. So basically, if u plan to eat any of these stuff, u have to plan. I eat to stay awake. I know its bad but it happens.

Sometimes, when I drink coffee, strong coffee, i get a heady, high feel. A little bit light headed, as if I am above everything. And I float around the lab. haha. today was one of those mornings.

What a difference a tan makes!

There was this guy who works in my company. The first time we met was one of those "knight in shining armour" moment. i was bringing a trolley of glassware for washing when I realised that I didn't have access to the facility. Then this cute guy turns up and saves the day. After that, there was always the occasional Hi's and bye's when we run into each other at the lobby or along the corridor. Since we work on different floors, there wasn't much chance for interaction. He was a hi-bye friend I suppose. I did think that he was quite cute, but well, not that stunningly cute enough such that I would throw myself at him. Till today. So today, he came by to say bye to this other guy who sits near me in the office. Seems that its his last day in Singapore, he will be going for good. And suddenly, i thought he just looked so cute. There was something about him. Something different. yes, it was a tan! He was glowing. He was radiant. he was such a sunshine boy. How cute. How arresting. I was mersmerized.

It got me thinking then, that a tan can really make a difference. Well at least to me. I recalled that a few years ago, i developed a crush on a guy only after seeing him with a tan.

i do find pale/fair skinned guys quite a turn off.

But on the other extreme, a overly tanned guy will simply wrinkle real soon, and the touch of wrinkled skin can be rather creepy. That aside, too tan just doesn't look good. Theres a huge difference between burnt and tanned. Golden boy vs chao-tar boy.

sick day

Sick day. Kept sneezing, showers of mucus (gross!)
dr placed her stethescope on my chest and instructed me to breathe deeply.
I probably deafened her with mucus-filled breath.

I spent like most of my day sleeping. I didn't even get the chance the take medicine and i was fast asleep. And i hate it when my mother keeps disturbing my sleep. I mean she can be such a pain. So I was sleeping and she was throwing out instructions that i should wash my pants, bring out the clothes to dry cos the weather looks good. She can't do that cos she is late for her appointment. The reason why she is late because she wanted to cook for me etc etc. Call me ungrateful, but she really didn't have to cook. I bought bread on the way home from the doc's for lunch. And while i was sleeping, she had to call me on the house phone, which wasn't loud enough to wake me up. So she called on my cell phone and the 1st thing she asked was "where are u?" I don't know why after so many years of living together, she just doesn't get it. She still don't get it that when i am asleep, the world cease to exist. And do not disturb. I mean it.

I rarely get flu without fever. this is one of those times. So actually, i feel rather fine. but better to not go to work since now that we are all seated in a very small room, its easy to just pass the flu bug around. I thought it will be rather interesting if everyone in my room fell ill -- great testament to our thoughtful seating arrangement.

More on that. We currently have 5 people in a 2.5m by 2.5m space. Actually, i think its slightly less then that. Studies have shown that crowded conditions leads to agression among rats. Cities, crowded cities tend to have higher crime rates too. I wonder when we will start to sabotage each other's experiments...

so 5 of us. 3 gals and 2 boys. 2 dirty boys. I mean it. It totally creeps us up.

ethanol

student: do u have sterile ethanol?
: (*blink blink*) huh?

it was quite funny really because I was so stunned i didnt know what to say. On retrospect, he is a student, and i shouldn't be so mean about it.

Was doing some random browsing. Found some really funny wierd stuff such as this -- tampon absorption experiment!!
And then this

Over the past five years a number of papers, dealing with the dynamics of tumbling toast, have appeared in literature. These interesting and entertaining papers were motivated, in part, by a desire to verify and explain the popularly held belief that toast, falling from a table, invariably lands butter side down

some random recurring thoughts: why does no one cook duck curry? Does it taste really bad or wat??
