wats in a name??

I have a friend who just got baptised. And she gets a name to go along with it too. For months, she has been trying to decide on a name, and being a naturally deep thinker (who thinks in circles), she has been unable to make a decision.

She finally got baptised without a baptism name.

Whats in a name really? A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet. (an inaccuate shakespeare quote)
We are born with a name. One which we didn't choose but was decided by most likely our parents. Its like a package. a bundle which we have for life. I suppose if i had the choice, I my name won't be what it is now. A name is probably an acquired liking. One we get use to and hopefully grow to like. Give someone a choice and she can't decide. Whats the point?

When I was 7, i thought elizabeth was such a nice name. Sounds so grand and majestic. Reminds me of the queen.
When i turned 8, i thought that Rebecca was a nice name too and wished that it was mine.
Then came emma, the unique Pascalene, and a whole list of others i can't recall.
There was also those 2 names combination such as Anne-marie, Sue-ann, Louisa-ann, celeste jillian etc. I thought they were kinda cool. Little did i realise how much they suffered during exams when they have to spend slightly more time then the average to either write their full name, or shade the alphabets of their names in the OAS.

recently came across a name, Siobhan. I mean seriously how on earth do u pronounce this without it sounding ridiculous? First thought was Shio-ban?? Siob-han?? one day, can't remember how, i figured that it was Sher-von. Sounds nice i thought. And with such a cool way of spelling it. On retrospect, if you live in singapore with such a name, 99% of the people you meet will pronounce it is some ridiculous fashion. Honest.
