seasons

Its summer. And i love it! In fact, this is my 1st summer, this is my 1st year experiencing the 4 seasons. I never knew that i could be missing out on this much living in the tropics. Just think of the millions of people living in the tropics and never experiencing the seasons!

Each day in the tropics is almost indistinguishable from the other. The sun rises and sets at around the same time, the weather is either very hot, hot or rainy. I never gave much thought to daylight hours either since its almost the same everyday. Here, however, i developed a newfound appreciation for daylight. The depressing winters in contrast to summers when the sun doesn't set till late. I am enjoying the summer now so much, and seriously, i am dreading the impending winter. Just thinking about it is depressing.

Thats life. Good things don't last forever. Ups and downs. Summer, fall, winter, spring. Summer and fall must be my favorite season. Deary winter... it gets dark at 4pm, there is this quiet, this stillness in the air as people hurry back to the warmth of their homes. Spring.. feels as if the world is waking up to the rain. The smell of rain on the grass, damp earth. The sky is still mostly grey but there is this sense of the coming light. Its as if the air is pregnant with anticipation.... then Summer comes. There are days when the sweltering heat is unbearable... but most of the time, its a pleasant warmth. People are just noticeably happier, more laid back... its a wonder how much sunlight does to lift one's moods.

I think i am getting all melodramatic about this. but to the people who live here, i guess they won't know what its like to have 365 days of constant daylight hours. They must think that its wonderful to have summer everyday! (really, it gets boring) in a way, i do like it too.. i can go for a run everyday at 6pm and know that the sun would have just set, it won't be too hot and it will still be light... since i got here, my running routine has just turned topsy-turvy. Same goes for my appetite. As soon as it gets dark, my body thinks that its time to have dinner and i start feeling hunry.

I am enjoying the summer while it lasts... =)
